Who am I?

Having read Silent Spring as a young person, I went to law school hoping to use the law to prevent ecological disaster. I worked as an attorney, organizer, director, grant writer, researcher, writer, and more at various non-profits for over 25 years including the Michigan Environmental Council, Environmental Action, the Washington Toxics Coalition, Columbia Legal Services, and Farm Worker Pesticide Project. As time went on, I eventually grasped that things were not getting better despite the assurances we non-profit employees made to each other and in public statements and grant reports. Not only that, but there is much about the Non-Profit Industrial Complex that keeps us from fighting the way we need to fight demanding the changes we need to demand.

When it became clear to me that the work that needs to be done won’t be funded, I severed the connection between my livelihood and my activism. Paying the bills through other rewarding work, I continued on as an activist free to say and do what needs to be said and done. I wrote a book about what we’re up against, why we’re losing, and what we need to do to survive and create a just world. You can order What It Will Take. Rejecting Dead-ends and False Friends in the Fight for the Earth on Amazon. (Testimonials and more information on the book are included in a post on the sub stack.) And I periodically produce articles, reports, videos and other materials as I organize with others on a variety of intertwined issues such as: saving our environment, demanding economic justice, defending children and civil rights from Gender Identity Ideology, and fighting for immigration reform.
